Welcome to Holden's Pack 175!

Cub Scout Promise

I, (your name), promise

to do my best

to do my duty to God

and my country

to help other people, and

to obey the law of the Pack.

Our Scouting Philosophy

The Cub Scout Promise concisely sums up the main elements of our scouting philosophy.  Scouting is a great program that teaches kids at an early age the importance of learning new things, trying your best and using one's skills and talents to help others.  The scouting program also places a strong emphasis on learning important personal safety skills (e.g., do you know where the water shut-off valve is in your house?).  Outdoor activities are also an integral part of scouting.  We plan many outdoor activities that are not only fun but also create an appreciation for nature that will motivate them to care for it throughout their lives.  Lastly, scouting is also a great place to develop lasting friendships for kids and parents built around these guiding values.

More about Pack 175

Our charter organization is Immanuel Lutheran Church in Holden, MA, which is also where our den meetings usually take place.  This year we have a Wolf Den (2nd graders), Bears (3rd graders) and first year Webelos (4th graders).  If you're interested in joining Cub Scouts please feel free to contact our new Cubmaster, Mike Miller (Michael.Miller@rcnmetro.com), and he will be happy to provide you with additional details.  You can come try out a den meeting or two before making a commitment to join.

Upcoming Events:

  • Nov 14: Turkey cookout at Trout Brook Reservation This is an annual tradition that brings Boy Scout 175 and Cub Scout 175 families together.  The Boy Scouts in Troop 175 cook half a dozen or so turkeys outside over an open fire - it's quite an experience! Afterwords, everyone gets together in the lodge to enjoy an absolutely fantastic Thanksgiving meal.  The Boy Scouts camp out overnight in tents and the Cub Scouts can stay overnight in the lodge by a warm wood fire.  The event will start ~3pm for the Cub Scouts.

  • Nov 21:  Space Derby. The kids make rubber band and propeller powered rockets from balsa wood and race them against each other at a friendly family evening gathering.  The rocket kits have been handed out and some of the kids have already started working on them.  The event will run from 4-8:30pm in the church gym.

  • Dec 12:  Holiday Party.  A gathering of scout families to enjoy time together and make gifts to give.  Each Den will prepare a station with a craft or activity.  Each family is also asked to bring a toy (unwrapped) to donate to the children's unit at UMass Medical Center.  Mark Johnson started this in appreciation of the care his family received there and we would like to continue this wonderful community service.  We'll also be doing skits at this year's event!

  • Feb 26-27: Winter Campout.  Pack 175 will head to Treasure Valley for some winter fun.  Activities include ice fishing, ice rescue, campfire and night hike.

  • March 6:  TBD.

  • March 20: Pinewood Derby.  Our Pinewood Derby will be computerized this year.  The big advantage of this is that the kids will get to run more races.  Details of other activities that night are to be announced later (in past years, we've had driver's license tests, eye exams, a safety lecture from a Holden police officer to name a few).  Click here to see the results from our 2010 Pinewood Derby.

  • April:  With the weather warming, a hike and/or campout are likely to be our pack events.  Mount Graylock and Monadnock are being discussed as possibilities.  We did Monadnock last year (a lot of fun!) but might want to try something different.

  • May: Battleship Cove?  Other possibilities that were suggested were Mystic Aquarium, the Coast Guard base in New London, the submarine base in Groton, and the Native America museum at Foxwoods.  More details to be discussed at upcoming Leaders/Parents meetings.
